Video Brightener — Bright
View on Chrome Web StoreChrome will indicate if you already have this installed.
Overview
■ The problem this solves
- Dark scenes in gameplay streams you just can't see
- Movie and TV scenes too dark to make out the details
- Crushed shadows in horror-game streams — you can't tell what's happening
- Turning up your monitor only makes everything else glaring
■ What Video Brightener does
- Uses gamma correction to lift only the dark areas
- Built-in contrast adjustment prevents a washed-out look
- Independent sliders for brightness and contrast
- Four one-click presets (Low / Medium / Strong / Max)
- Works in fullscreen, where many similar extensions fail
- Works on DRM-protected streaming
■ Privacy
- No communication with external servers, ever
- Never reads the pixel data of your video
- Stores only three settings: on/off, brightness, contrast
- No analytics, no tracking
■ Limitations
- Filters do not apply in Picture-in-Picture mode (a platform limitation)
- On some hardware-acceleration setups the filter may not take effect
■ How it works (for the technically curious)
A two-stage SVG filter (feComponentTransfer): gamma correction plus linear contrast.
It runs on the GPU compositing path, so even 4K60fps video adds virtually no load.
It never draws video frames to a canvas, so it works under Widevine and other DRM.
