Overview
SpeedNotes lets teachers jot quick notes about students and see those notes automatically when grading in Canvas SpeedGrader. Click the extension icon to add a note for any student from any page. When you open SpeedGrader, SpeedNotes shows that student's note automatically. If you create a note while in SpeedGrader, the student name is auto-filled; you can also type names manually on other pages.
Notes are saved using Chrome Sync for your signed-in browser profile, so they stay in sync across your devices. There are no external servers.
A simple "Storage" percentage helps you understand how much space is left, and the extension prevents saves that would exceed the storage limit so you don't lose work.
Permissions: the "tabs" permission is used only to detect Canvas SpeedGrader pages so the student name can be auto-filled.
What's new in 1.1.1:
New SpeedGrader support — Works with Canvas's new SpeedGrader interface.
Expanded storage — Notes are now stored individually rather than in a single block, giving you roughly 12x more space. You shouldn't hit a storage limit anymore.
Multiple notes per student — Save more than one note for each student. All entries display together, newest first.
Timestamps — Every new note is automatically dated. Older notes saved before this update will show "No date."
Edit in place — Click the pencil icon on any note entry to edit it directly.
Per-note colors — Each note entry keeps its own color, so you can color-code different types of feedback.
Visual refresh — Clean, modern design with softer colors, rounded corners, and smooth animations.
Title case — ALL CAPS student names from Canvas are automatically displayed as Title Case.
