Overview
SimpleReader is a fast, privacy-focused RSS and Atom feed reader that lives entirely inside your browser. Subscribe to any blog, news site, or podcast feed and read articles without leaving Chrome — no account, no subscription, no data sent anywhere.
Everything stays local.
Your subscriptions and articles are stored in Chrome's built-in storage. Nothing is transmitted to any external server. SimpleReader has no backend, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.
Sync across devices — without a separate account. Your feed list and settings sync across your signed-in Chrome devices automatically, using Chrome's own sync infrastructure. No new account required.
Features:
• Reads RSS 2.0, Atom 1.0, and RSS 1.0 (RDF) feeds
• OPML import and export — bring your subscriptions from any other reader
• Full-text search across all loaded articles
• Dark mode and three font-size options
• Keyboard navigation: j/k or arrow keys to move, Enter to expand
• Pin/star feeds to keep them at the top of the sidebar
• Automatic refresh every 30 minutes using efficient conditional HTTP requests (ETag / Last-Modified)
• Articles expand inline; a "Read Full Article" link opens the original
About the permissions:
SimpleReader requests broad host permissions solely to fetch RSS feed URLs that you choose to subscribe to. It never accesses sites you haven't added yourself — the permission is required because RSS feeds are served from
arbitrary domains.
