Overview
POLAR is a focus companion for serious studiers — CS majors, med students, bar prep, researchers. It uses your webcam to quietly track your reading, then gets out of your way.
Three states, three responses.
Focused: POLAR does nothing. No nudges, no notifications. It records your session quietly so it can recap it later.
Distracted: after 15 seconds of your gaze leaving the page, a small widget pulses in the corner and a short retention question appears. Answer it or dismiss it and get back to work.
Stuck: if your gaze lingers on the same paragraph for 90 seconds with almost no scrolling or typing, POLAR rephrases that paragraph beside the original. You can read either version.
Privacy first. All gaze tracking happens locally in your browser using MediaPipe. The camera feed never leaves your device. POLAR only sends three things when it responds: a state label, a confidence score, and the text of the paragraph you're reading — the same information you'd describe to a tutor out loud.
With an account (free): sessions sync to your POLAR dashboard at polarstudytool.com, where you can review your history and read weekly reports generated from your focus data.
Without an account: POLAR works fully, sessions just stay on your device.
POLAR runs only on the current tab by default. You can opt into always-on tracking during setup if you prefer continuous sessions across pages.
