Overview
🛡️ PhishGuard — Real-Time Phishing Protection for Gmail
PhishGuard automatically analyzes every email you open in Gmail and alerts you to phishing attacks before you click anything dangerous.
🔍 WHAT IT DETECTS
• Brand impersonation — PayPal, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Apple + 10 more
• Suspicious links scanned by VirusTotal (70+ antivirus engines)
• Urgency tactics and credential-harvesting language (40+ patterns)
• Typosquatting domains — paypa1.com, amaz0n.com, micros0ft.com
• URL shorteners hiding malicious destinations
⚡ HOW IT WORKS
1. You open an email in Gmail
2. PhishGuard analyzes sender, subject, body and all links
3. A color-coded banner appears — green (safe), yellow (suspicious), red (danger)
4. Links are checked against VirusTotal's global threat database
5. The extension icon shows a risk badge: OK / ⚠ / !
📊 STATISTICS DASHBOARD
Track all-time and weekly threat counts, a 7-day activity chart, and the most dangerous email ever detected.
🔒 PRIVACY
• All local analysis runs entirely in your browser
• Only URLs are sent to VirusTotal — no email text, no personal data
• No PhishGuard servers — zero data collection
• Requires a free VirusTotal API key (setup guide included on install)
