Night PDF: Smart Dark Mode for PDFs

Overview
PDF Dark Mode — But Better.
Night PDF is a lightweight extension that inverts the colors of any PDF you open in Chrome. It gives you a comfortable dark reading experience without eye strain, lag, or the visual bugs common in other extensions.
Unlike other tools that rely on clunky DOM hacks or force you to use third-party PDF viewers, Night PDF uses a hardware-accelerated "Smart Glass" overlay. It applies directly to Chrome’s native PDF viewer, meaning search, zoom, and print functions continue to work perfectly.
[I] Why Night PDF is Different
• Color-Preserving Math: Standard dark modes ruin images by turning reds into cyan and greens into magenta. Night PDF uses a hue-rotation algorithm to ensure your charts, images, and highlighted text retain their original colors.
• Focus Curtains: Inverting a PDF usually turns the dark-grey background margins into a blinding light-grey. We built draggable, customizable "Focus Curtains" to mask these margins, keeping your screen truly dark.
• Zero Lag: No heavy scripts or frameworks. The dark mode is applied in a single paint frame at the GPU level.
• Per-Tab Memory: Each tab tracks its own state independently.
[II] Features
1. One-Click Toggle: Flip any browser PDF to dark mode instantly.
2. Global Auto-Enable: Set PDFs to open in dark mode by default.
3. Keyboard Shortcut: Use Ctrl+Shift+D (Cmd+Shift+D on Mac) to toggle instantly.
4. Works Offline: Fully supports local files (see instructions below).
[III] How to use with Local Files (file:///)
1. By default, Chrome blocks extensions from accessing local files. To read PDFs stored on your computer:
2. Right-click the Night PDF extension icon and select "Manage Extension".
3. Scroll down and toggle ON "Allow access to file URLs".
4. Open any local PDF and enjoy!
[IV] Privacy by Design
Night PDF is 100% local. It contains zero tracking scripts, zero analytics, and zero external dependencies. It does not collect, store, or transmit your data.
