Lumotraq Carbon Footprint

Overview
Lumotraq estimates the carbon footprint of digital ads served to you during browsing. We detect ad elements on pages via content scripts and use your location (derived from IP, country-level only) to apply the correct electricity grid intensity. It detects banner, video, and sponsored ads across the context that matters: news, streaming, shopping and work. Each ad is matched to your country's electricity grid intensity, then converted to CO₂e using methodology grounded in the GHG Protocol (Scope 3) and Ad Net Zero's Global Media Sustainability Framework. Under modern ad-consent frameworks your carbon score reflects what actually rendered on your screen during the session.
Every page you load might run ads. Each ad is linked to a network request, script, video frame or tracking pixel — quietly consuming bandwidth, processor cycles, and electricity grid CO₂e. For consumers, it's an visible drag on device performance and personal media footprint. For businesses, it's an measured Scope 3 line item under CSRD obligations with more accuracy, transparency and opportunity for scale. What all three have in common? The option to manage wasted time, lost productivity and weighted ad consumption based on web traffic online.
Climate-conscious consumers who want to see the environmental cost of their daily media consumption do benefit from managing their emissions by reflecting lost space for productive engagement. Sustainability-oriented users who care about measurement, do benefit from privacy oriented ad filtering. Marketing operations leads, ad-technology professionals and publisher teams who are using similiar approaches for media reporting, submitting reviews or CSRD Scope 3 reporting take the first step of more effective work on reliable sources.
Anonymized error reports go to Sentry for stability and operational monitoring. Anonymized feature-usage aggregates go to PostHog. Processing complies with GDPR, EU-hosted backend is supported. Lumotraq is currently available in markets where grid carbon intensity data is accessible. We are expanding coverage market-by-market via partnerships as soon as possible.
