Knockoff — Amazon Brand F
View on Chrome Web StoreChrome will indicate if you already have this installed.
Overview
Amazon is flooded with trademark-squat "brands": SZHLUX, HORUSDY, LATTOOK, DOZAWA... random strings registered purely to unlock Amazon Brand Registry, selling commodity goods with no company, no warranty, and no reputation behind them.
Knockoff detects those listings and hides, dims, or labels them, right in the search results. Buy from real, established brands, even when that means paying more.
HOW IT WORKS
Every product tile's brand is checked locally, on your device:
• Your personal allowlist and blocklist always win
• A curated list of ~5,000 established brands, plus the community AmazonBrandFilterList, refreshed daily
• A seed list of notorious pseudo-brands
• Name heuristics tuned to the linguistic signature of trademark-squat names: ALL-CAPS gibberish, vanishing vowels, unpronounceable consonant runs
FILTER LEVELS
• Relaxed: known pseudo-brands and your blocklist
• Standard (default): also suspect-looking names and unbranded listings
• Strict: allowlist-only; anything not a known brand gets filtered
ACTIONS
Filtered items can be hidden (with a floating pill showing the count and a one-click reveal), dimmed (restore on hover), or just labeled. Every badge is clickable: trust the brand, block it, show the item once, or report a misclassification. Product pages get a verdict chip next to the brand byline; the page itself is never hidden out from under you.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Everything runs locally. No accounts, no tracking, no analytics. The only network traffic is a daily brand-list download and optional one-click misclassification reports (brand name, verdict, ASIN, marketplace; nothing about you). The source code is public: github.com/Shpigford/knockoff
Works on amazon.com, amazon.ca, amazon.co.uk, and amazon.com.au. English marketplaces only for now.
