Hushmode — Block Autoplay
View on Chrome Web StoreChrome will indicate if you already have this installed.
Overview
Stop being ambushed by videos.
Every day, websites blast unexpected audio at you — news sites, social feeds, LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube. HushMode quietly prevents every autoplay video and audio from firing before it ever starts. You see the video. It just waits for you.
HOW IT WORKS
HushMode runs silently in the background on every page you visit. The moment any video or audio tries to autoplay — whether through an HTML attribute or a JavaScript play() call — HushMode intercepts it and keeps it paused. No surprise blasts. No scrambling to find which tab is making noise.
WORKS EVERYWHERE
· YouTube — prevents autoplay on videos and the homepage feed
· Twitter / X — stops videos from playing as you scroll
· LinkedIn — silences silent-but-annoying feed videos
· Reddit — pauses video posts before they load
· News sites — kills inline article videos
· Any website — if it autoplays, HushMode stops it
SMART CONTROLS
· Allowlist any site permanently — some sites you want autoplay on
· Temporary allow — let autoplay run for 1 hour on a specific site
· Right-click any video — allow just that one video without allowlisting the whole site
· Keyboard shortcut — Alt+Shift+H toggles HushMode on/off instantly
PRIVACY FIRST
HushMode works entirely on your device. It reads nothing about you, sends nothing anywhere, and has no servers. Your browsing stays completely private. The only data stored is your personal settings and allowlist — saved locally in your browser, never transmitted.
TRANSPARENT STATS
Watch the counter climb. HushMode tracks how many autoplay attempts it has blocked today, this week, and since you installed it — broken down by site. Most users see 30–80 blocks per day.
No account required. No ads. No tracking. Just silence.
