Overview
Stop Unwanted YouTube Playback in Google Docs & Slides
This extension is designed specifically for schools, educational institutions, and organizations that need to enforce content filtering policies.
The Problem:
Even if YouTube is blocked on your network, the "Smart Chip" or "Link Preview" feature in Google Docs and Google Slides can sometimes bypass these filters. When a user hovers over a YouTube link, a small preview card appears that allows the video to play directly within the document, creating a loophole in content restriction policies.
The Solution:
This extension strictly blocks network requests to YouTube (youtube.com, youtu.be, and https://www.google.com/search?q=youtube-nocookie.com) only when they originate from Google Docs or Google Slides.
Features:
Blocks Embedded Players: The preview card may still appear, but the video player itself will fail to load (showing a connection error or blank space).
Specific Targeting: Only affects Google Docs and Slides. It does not block YouTube if a user navigates to the actual YouTube website (unless blocked by your network) or other sites.
Lightweight & Private: Built with the latest Manifest V3 declarativeNetRequest API, ensuring zero impact on performance and total privacy. No user data is collected or transmitted.
How to Deploy:
Perfect for deployment via the Google Admin Console to student Chromebooks or managed Chrome browsers.
