Exif Metadata Photo Merge

Overview
Exported your library using Google Takeout and noticed missing dates or locations?
Google Takeout often stores important metadata — such as original capture dates, GPS coordinates, and other EXIF information — separately in JSON files instead of embedding it directly into the photos. As a result, images can appear with incorrect timestamps, missing location data, or broken timelines when viewed in other apps.
This extension fixes that.
It scans your Google Takeout export, matches each photo with its corresponding JSON metadata file, and merges the correct EXIF data directly into the image files. Your media becomes self-contained again, with accurate dates and GPS information restored inside each file.
After restoring metadata, the extension organizes your media into a clean local folder structure (for example, by year), builds a structured media database, and as a bonus it generates interactive maps based on images location.
Key Features:
1. Merge metadata into photos
2. Embeds capture date, GPS location, and optional fields (Google Photos URL, albums, people) from Takeout JSON into JPEG EXIF so files remain self-contained.
3. Organize by year - Sorts processed media into a simple folder layout (e.g., Processed/YYYY) for easier browsing and backup.
4. Preserve original Google Albums.
5. Video support - Copies videos into the same organized structure and can keep them paired with their matching JSON metadata.
6. Interactive maps - Generates world and per-album maps with clustering so you can explore where your photos were taken. Map data accumulates across runs.
7. Media database - Creates a JSON database of processed media (filename, path, date, location) for reporting and future use.
Fully local processing
Uses the File System Access API to read and write only the folders you select.
No uploads. No cloud processing. No external servers.
Your data never leaves your computer.
Who It’s For:
- Users exporting their library with Google Takeout
- Anyone who wants accurate dates and GPS data embedded in their photo files
- Privacy-conscious users who prefer fully local processing
- Users who want interactive maps generated from their own data
