Outlook Word & Character Counter

A lightweight extension that shows a live word and character count for the email you’re reading in Outlook web.

What it does:
- Displays a small overlay with word count and character count in the bottom corner of the email view
- Updates automatically as you scroll through emails
- Works on outlook.live.com and outlook.office.com

How it works:
The extension reads the visible text of the open email and calculates the count locally in your browser. No text is stored, copied, or sent anywhere. All processing happens on your device.

Permissions explained:
Host permission is required to access the email body text on Outlook web. The extension does not collect personal data, track browsing, or communicate with external servers.

Use case:
Quickly check email length before sending, stay within character limits, or estimate reading time without copying text to another app.
