Overview
Every voice, one pace — automatically.
Some speakers race through their content. Others drag. If you watch a lot of YouTube, you've probably spent more time than you'd like reaching for the playback speed control. EvenKeel handles that for you.
It adjusts playback rate in real time based on how fast or slow someone is actually talking, so every speaker plays back at your comfortable speed. Set your target once and forget about it.
HOW IT WORKS
EvenKeel listens for speech as a video plays and adjusts the playback rate to match your target words per minute. A fast talker gets slowed down. A slow talker gets sped up.
When music plays or there's a pause in speech, it backs off and lets the video play at normal speed. The speed changes are gradual enough that you won't notice them happening.
WHAT YOU CAN ADJUST
Target WPM: Pick anywhere between 100 and 220 words per minute. If you like to burn through lectures, go high. If you want something more relaxed, go low.
Quick toggle: Turn EvenKeel on or off with Alt+C. No need to open the popup.
Nudge controls: Bump your target up or down on the fly with Alt+] and Alt+[. Handy when a section is dragging or when someone is covering a lot of ground quickly.
Recalibrate: Take a short listening test any time to reset your preferred speed.
WORKS WITH
YouTube — any video, any channel, any length.
WHAT EVENKEEL ACCESSES AND WHY
EvenKeel needs access to YouTube pages so it can read the audio stream and adjust playback. It does not touch your account info, watch history, or subscriptions. It only looks at the audio that's currently playing.
The storage permission saves your WPM preference between sessions. That setting lives on your device in Chrome's local storage. Nothing gets sent anywhere.
