Overview
EloGuard: Tilt Protection for Chess.com
Stop the tilt. Protect your rating. Play your best chess.
EloGuard is a Chrome extension designed to stop tilt and secure your progress on Chess.com. It hides rating numbers to reduce anxiety and automatically locks the "Play" button when you hit your limits. EloGuard ensures you set session goals and actually stick to them.
MAIN FEATURES
1. The Stop-Loss Lock (Anti-Tilt) Just like a stock trader sets a stop-loss to protect their money, EloGuard protects your Elo.
How it works: Input a "Floor" rating (e.g., 1000) or set a limit for a specific number of losses. If your live rating drops to this number or you hit your loss limit, the extension physically disables the Play and Rematch buttons on Chess.com.
The Result: You literally cannot rage-queue another game. The play again button disables, displays a STOP message, and forces you to take a break.
2. Zen Mode (Hide Ratings) Ladder anxiety is real. Seeing your opponent's rating is 50 points higher than yours can make you play fearfully.
How it works: Toggle Zen Mode to instantly hide all rating numbers on the site.
What it hides: Hides your rating, your opponent's rating, win/loss rating changes in chat, and profile stats.
Focus: Play the board, not the number.
3. Analysis Cooldown To improve at chess, you must analyze your games. But when we tilt, we skip analysis to play faster.
How it works: Set a timer (e.g., 60 seconds). After every game, the Play button locks for that duration. Note: This will no longer trigger if a game is aborted.
The Result: Forces you to take a breath and check your mistakes before the system lets you queue again.
4. Target Ceiling (Quit While Ahead) Knowing when to stop winning is just as important as knowing when to stop losing.
How it works: Set a Ceiling rating. If you hit your goal for the day, the button disables with a green GOAL HIT victory message.
Benefit: End your session on a high note and internalize your gains.
5. Smart Brackets Don't want to do the math? Use the Smart Bracket feature.
Enter a range (e.g., +/- 30 points) and click Apply. EloGuard automatically detects your current live rating and sets your Stop Loss and Target instantly.
6. Forced Discipline (Random String Unlock) For those who find it too easy to toggle the guard off mid-tilt.
How it works: You can enable a setting that requires you to type a random string of characters to unlock the guard.
Benefit: This extra friction forces your brain to engage and think, "Is this a good idea?", breaking the rage-queue loop.
COMPATIBILITY
EloGuard works seamlessly with the standard Chess.com interface.
Supported Modes: Blitz, Rapid, and Bullet.
Supported Buttons: Handles the main New Game buttons, sidebar rematch buttons, and game-over popups.
FAQ
Q: Can I unlock the button if I really want to play? A: Yes. You can open the extension menu and deactivate the guard. However, by requiring a random string entry, the extra steps give you enough time to cool down.
Q: Does this work on the mobile app? A: No, this is a Chrome Extension and works only on the desktop/web version of Chess.com.
Q: Why do I need to enter my username? A: The extension needs your username to fetch your live rating from the Chess.com API to know when to lock the buttons.
