Overview

Digital Sabbath is a free, open-source Chrome extension that blocks distracting websites on one day a year — the summer solstice. On June 21, 2026, the extension activates automatically. Major social media feeds, gambling platforms, and video streaming sites will be restricted. Instead of your usual scroll, you'll see a gentle reminder to step outside and be present.

The extension focuses specifically on high-distraction platforms while leaving essential tools like email, banking, maps, and music completely accessible. It uses Chrome's declarativeNetRequest API to ensure privacy—no background scripts read your data, and no personal information is ever collected or tracked. The blocking rules only activate on the designated date and remain dormant the rest of the year. The average person spends over 7 hours a day on screens; Digital Sabbath is one day to remember what life feels like without the feed.
