Consentscope

ConsentScope helps you understand what a website does before you click "Accept".
It monitors cookies, browser storage, and third-party scripts, and then compares those
events with the moment consent was detected. This makes it easy to spot potential GDPR
cookie violations such as non-essential cookies being set before consent.

✨ What it does:
• 🍪Cookie monitoring: detects cookies set via JavaScript and HTTP Set-Cookie headers.
Storage monitoring: detects localStorage / sessionStorage keys written by the page.
Consent detection: recognizes many consent banners/CMPs and uses heuristics for custom
banners (multi-language).
Timing & evidence: tracks page load time, consent time, and event timestamps.
•🛑 Violation flags: highlights non-essential cookies detected before consent.
3rd-party scripts (Pro): detects third-party scripts, tag managers (e.g., GTM) and vendor risk,
especially those loaded before consent.
Privacy policy analysis (Pro): attempts to locate a privacy policy and compares declared
disclosures vs observed cookies.
Compliance score (Pro): provides a simple 0-100 score with a breakdown of key risk factors.
Exports (Pro): export JSON, CSV, or a shareable PDF audit report.
History (Pro): save scans and revisit them later.

🔥Free vs Pro

Free focuses on the current page and shows results locally.
Pro unlocks additional features such as history, exports, policy analysis, compliance scoring,
and third-party script analysis. Pro is activated using a license key.
Privacy & data handling
• Free mode: scan results are stored locally in your browser.
Pro features (history, PDF export, policy analysis): scan data is sent to the ConsentScope API
to store scans and generate reports.

🛠️ Permissions (why we need them):
cookies: detect cookies being set/changed.
storage : store scan results locally and support Pro activation state.
webRequest observe Set-Cookie headers and detect script requests.
webNavigation / tabs : associate events with the active tab and reset on navigation.
scripting: analyze the current page to help detect the privacy policy link.
activeTab : access only the currently active tab when needed (e.g., policy link detection).
