Overview
ClipHutch is a privacy-first Chrome extension for web media capture. It detects supported videos, HLS (.m3u8) playlists, DASH (.mpd) manifests, direct video files, and large images loaded by the current page, then lets you preview and save them locally.
Use it when you want to find media a page already loads without opening DevTools Network or pasting URLs into third-party sites.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Detect media loaded by the active tab
- Save direct video files such as MP4 or WebM when available
- Assemble supported HLS and DASH streams into a playable local file
- Find larger still images loaded or referenced by the page
- Preview detected items before saving
- Save files through Chrome’s built-in download manager
SUPPORTED MEDIA
- Direct video files served by web pages
- HLS playlists (.m3u8)
- DASH manifests (.mpd)
- Larger still images
LOCAL-FIRST PRIVACY
Designed to run on your device. Detection, preview display, stream assembly/conversion, and file saving happen locally.
It does not:
- Send URLs, page titles, hostnames, filenames, page content, or browsing activity to the developer
- Track usage or include analytics
- Use the scripting API to inject arbitrary code
- Request tabs, browsingData, notifications, downloads.open, or unlimitedStorage permissions
LIMITS
This extension only works with supported, accessible media that the page loads in a compatible format. It does not bypass logins, paywalls, DRM, encryption, access controls, or private permissions. It cannot decrypt encrypted media streams.
PERMISSIONS
The extension requests these Chrome API permissions: webRequest, storage, downloads, offscreen, and declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess.
A limited declared content script reads image URL attributes already present in page markup so still images can appear in the toolbar count and popup.
LICENSE AND NETWORK ACCESS
The free tier does not contact a server operated by the developer. If you activate a licensed tier, it contacts a license-validation endpoint at activation and at most once every 7 days. No URLs, page content, or save history is transmitted.
