Overview
Chess PiP Board pops out your chess.com board into a floating Picture-in-Picture window that stays on top of everything — so you can keep an eye on your game while browsing other tabs, watching videos, or doing anything else.
HOW IT WORKS
The extension detects the chess board on chess.com and mirrors it into a Document Picture-in-Picture window using a live video stream captured directly from the board canvas.
THREE WAYS TO ACTIVATE
• Auto — just switch to another tab. PiP opens automatically and closes when you come back. If you opened PiP manually, it stays open.
• Button — click the PiP button in the board controls bar (appears next to the existing chess.com buttons).
• Toolbar — click the extension icon in Chrome's toolbar.
The toolbar icon turns green when PiP is active and gray when it's off.
FEATURES
• Automatic PiP on tab switch — no clicks needed
• Adaptive frame rate matched to your monitor's refresh rate
• Supports both canvas (WebGL) and legacy HTML board rendering
• Seamless integration with chess.com's UI
• Lightweight — no dependencies, no background overhead
• Works with chess.com's single-page navigation (live games, analysis, puzzles, etc.)
REQUIREMENTS
• Chrome 116 or later (uses the Document Picture-in-Picture API)
• Only works on chess.com
PERMISSIONS
• "activeTab" — to detect and mirror the chess board on the current tab
• Host permission for chess.com — content script injection
