Overview

About Accessible Shortcuts
Quickly find forms, contacts, menus, buttons, and other important areas of any webpage. Accessible Shortcuts is a free extension for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox that helps keyboard and screen reader users navigate the Web with greater autonomy. Instead of sorting through dozens or hundreds of elements to find an information, form, or specific area of the page, you can create custom shortcuts for the spots you access the most, generate smart content summaries, describe images, substitute terms, and ask questions using Artificial Intelligence.
Key Features
• Create custom shortcuts for any element on the page;
• Customize shortcut execution behavior (focus or click the target element);
• Smart page summaries powered by AI;
• Identify and label any page element accessibly using AI;
• Custom dictionary to replace confusing terms and words on webpages;
• Automatic image description (local and clipboard images);
• Interactive chat to ask questions about pages and images;
• Interactive and accessible search filter for shortcuts and custom labels lists;
• Export and import configurations for backup;
• Intent Navigation Bar (TopBar) at the top of all pages;
• Accessible integration with screen readers.
With this extension, you will be able to create shortcuts accessibly to focus or click elements on a webpage, as well as use AI to describe images, generate smart summaries of page content, automatically replace confusing terms, and ask questions in real-time through an interactive chat.

Accessible Shortcuts Menu
The extension features a dedicated menu named "Accessible Shortcuts", which can be accessed by right-clicking anywhere on the page or by pressing the "Applications" key (or Shift + F10) on your keyboard. Inside this menu, you will find all the main features and default shortcuts of the extension, significantly improving quick access to options without needing to memorize all key combinations right away.
Add a New Shortcut
Just trigger the add shortcut action. A sound will play, and you can navigate with Tab or Shift + Tab to focus an element on the page, and then press the key combination that will become the shortcut for the focused element. By default, the shortcut to add a new shortcut is Alt + Control + Shift + A on Windows and Command + Option + Shift + A on Mac. After triggering this shortcut, choose the element using Tab or Shift + Tab, and then input your desired key combination. A confirmation dialog will appear: activate "Ok" to confirm or "Cancel" to abort.
Smart Page Summary with AI
To get a smart summary of the current page, use the shortcut Alt + Control + Shift + R on Windows and Command + Option + Shift + R on Mac. The extension will analyze the content and display a summary. The summary is interactive: if there is an important form or button, its link inside the summary will have the suffix "(focus on page)" and, when activated, will shift the screen reader's focus directly to that element. If it is an external link, it will indicate "(opens in new tab)". You will also find a "Generate new summary" button if you wish to update the information.
Element Identification and Labeling
You can identify and label any page element accessibly using Gemini AI. Simply focus the target element, open the context menu ("Accessible Shortcuts" -> "Identify and Label Element"). The AI analyzes the element's context and suggests a probable label. You are free to edit it with the label you find most appropriate. Created labels are saved locally and applied automatically whenever the page loads. We also added a dedicated area in the settings for you to manage, filter, edit, or delete your custom labels.
Term Substitution Dictionary
With the Substitution Dictionary, you can create rules to automatically change specific terms in the text of any website (perfect for correcting complex words or confusing abbreviations). This tool can be quickly opened using the keyboard shortcut Alt + Control + Shift + S on Windows or Command + Option + Shift + S on Mac, or via the context menu. You can set the scope of the substitution (whether it affects only the current site or all sites), make it case-sensitive, and opt for exact word matches or regular expressions (Regex). All created substitutions can be edited or removed in the settings page.
Describe an Image
To describe an image, use the shortcut Alt + Control + Shift + D on Windows and Command + Option + Shift + D on Mac. Select an image from your computer and activate the "Describe image" button. You can also use the "Describe clipboard image" button to get descriptions of screenshots or copied images (e.g., from WhatsApp Web).
Chat with AI
After generating a summary or describing an image, you can ask specific questions about the content. At the bottom of the summary or image description window, there is an input field to "Ask something about the page or image". Type your question and press Enter or activate the "Ask" button. The AI's response will appear below your question and will be read automatically by your screen reader. You can continue the conversation as long as the modal is open.
Intent Navigation Bar (TopBar)
Positioned at the top of every webpage you visit, the accessible intent navigation bar makes it easy to trigger quick actions. It offers buttons to quickly request AI summaries, image descriptions, open the extension settings, and send direct feedback, enhancing your daily web navigation.
Settings Page
The default shortcut to access settings is Alt + Control + Shift + C on Windows and Command + Option + Shift + C on Mac. There, you can manage all custom shortcuts, adjust execution behavior, manage dictionary substitutions, manage custom labels, and set up your Gemini API Key. On the official website, there is a simple and accessible step-by-step guide explaining how to securely obtain and save your key from Google AI Studio.
Important Note on Artificial Intelligence:
To use AI features (Summaries, Image Description, Labeling, and Chat), the extension uses the "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) model. This means you will need to input your own free Gemini API key (easily generated in Google AI Studio). This approach ensures you get your own exclusive usage quota with no ads, no shared limits, and Gemini data privacy.

Managing Shortcuts and Behaviors
Created shortcuts: In the table under the "Created shortcuts" title, you can view your custom combinations. In the "Action" column, you can delete unwanted shortcuts. Additionally, you can individually set the behavior of each shortcut in the table ("Default", "Focus", or "Click") to determine what action the extension triggers on the target element. Default shortcut behavior: In the default behavior section, define whether the extension should by default focus or click the element corresponding to the shortcut. This applies to all combinations set to "Default". Extension default shortcuts: Under the "Default shortcuts" title, you can edit the extension's own shortcuts (such as the summary or adding new items shortcut). When you activate "Edit", a sound will play and you should press the new desired combination. A confirmation box will be displayed before the new key combination is registered.
Shortcuts and Labels Filter
To ease navigation on long lists of created shortcuts and labels, we added a dynamic search filter field inside the settings tables. As you type a search term, the table updates in real-time, and the screen reader announces the number of filtered results in an accessible and interactive way.
Export and Import Shortcuts
You can save your custom shortcuts to use in another browser or perform a backup. In the settings page:
• Export shortcuts: Activate the "Export shortcuts" button to download a file with the ".as" extension containing all your created combinations.
• Import and append shortcuts: Activate this button to select a previously saved ".as" shortcut file. The extension will add the new shortcuts to your current list without erasing the ones you already have.
